Shape families are areas with common qualities. Often when an artist tries to subtly change a shape for the sake of variety, he/she may make too much of a change and a geometric shape may be come biomorphic. At what point in the evolution of shapes does one geometric shape become another?
Materials:
Drawing materials: pencil, ink, crayon, and paper.
Method:
Create three shape families trying to make as much subtle change as possible and falling just short of leaving that shape family. They may be presented as a finished organization. (Fig. 4.4A)
